@laurnpokes

Lauren is a skilled hand-poke/machine free tattoo artist specialising in fine line and ignorant tattoo styles.

"Pointillism has always inspired me! It was my main artistic form before I became a tattoo artist. I’ve always loved the patience and detail it requires".

"I really resonate with The Art of Thought (1926) by Graham Wallas - the idea of an incubation period is so true for me."

Which part of your creative process do you think defines you the most?

I’d say it’s a mix of experimenting and giving things time to breathe. I love sketching and playing around with ideas but I also step back and let things sit for a bit. Often my best ideas and details show up when I give myself that space, and that really ends up shaping how my designs turn out.

WHAT'S A COMMON MISCONCEPTION PEOPLE HAVE ABOUT TATTOOS AND TATTOO CULTURE?

A lot of people still see tattoos as taboo and think they’re only for a certain type of person. But tattooing is incredibly diverse now and crosses different styles, backgrounds, and personalities, which is what makes it such a rich and evolving art form.

HOW DO TATTOOS REFLECT SOMEONE'S PERSONALITY OR JOURNEY?

What I love about tattoos is that they don’t all have to be serious to be meaningful. A playful design can show just as much personality as something symbolic or meaningful. Either way, they reflect who that person is in that moment of their life.

WHAT'S THE STORY BEHIND YOUR FAVOURITE TATTOO YOU'VE EVER DONE?

I honestly can’t pick just one! I have multiple favourites for different reasons. I love anything that pushes me out of my comfort zone and challenges me, whether it’s a big statement piece or a detailed micro tattoo. Being a hand poked artist, I really enjoy testing the limits of what’s possible with this method and seeing how far I can take it.

IF YOU WEREN'T A TATTOO ARTIST, WHAT'S ANOTHER CREATIVE PATH YOU WOULD FOLLOW?

I’d probably be in the film industry as a production designer, and if not that, I could definitely see myself working on murals. Most creatives naturally have their hands in a few projects at once, and I find myself exploring other creative paths alongside tattooing.

HOW DO YOU APPROACH CREATIVITY IN OYOUR WORK?

I let inspiration come from nature, art, or even a quick conversation with someone. I’ve found that creativity flows best when I don’t overthink and when I give myself permission to take breaks.

I really resonate with The Art of Thought (1926) by Graham Wallas - the idea of an incubation period is so true for me. Stepping away often allows ideas to connect in the background, and when I return, the design feels more natural and considered..
